Hi Folks

How can I remove all of the unwanted dictionaries from Mozilla Thunderbird?

I only want en_GB.

Thanks Fitzcarraldo. I have read this but alas it does not help.

In the Add-Ons menu, I only have 'British English Dictionary 1.19.1' Extension and the 'English GB Language Pack' Language chosen.

I have disabled BOTH of these, and it makes no difference. I still have the large Spelling drop down menu with all the different options!

Hmm... you've got me curious, now. Have you tried the 'solution' of deleting the unwanted *.dic and *.aff files, mentioned in the following Ubuntu Forums post (although the directory could instead be /usr/share/myspell or /usr/share/hunspell)?

OK, time to shut down Thunderbird and Firefrox and move these extra files to somewhere else...

Code:
thinkpad ~ # rsync -a /usr/share/myspell /root/

I then deleted all of the files except *GB*.

I then edited the dictionary.lst.en file to include only *GB* lines, which now looks like this...

Code:
# Autogenerated by app-dicts/myspell-en-20081002
DICT en GB en_GB
HYPH en GB hyph_en_GB
THES en GB th_en_US_v2

...and re-started Thunderbird... to find...

Yay! Whoop whoop! Problem fixed.

FYI, the files came from...

Code:
thinkpad # qlist app-dicts/myspell-en
/usr/share/myspell/en_AU.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_US.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_GB.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_ZA.aff
/usr/share/myspell/hyph_en_GB.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_NZ.aff
/usr/share/myspell/en_GB-oed.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_AU.aff
/usr/share/myspell/th_en_US_v2.idx
/usr/share/myspell/en_GB-oed.aff
/usr/share/myspell/en_ZA.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_CA.aff
/usr/share/myspell/th_en_US_v2.dat
/usr/share/myspell/en_NZ.dic
/usr/share/myspell/en_CA.dic
/usr/share/myspell/dictionary.lst.en
/usr/share/myspell/en_US.aff
/usr/share/myspell/en_GB.aff

Thanks!
