I have recently installed Gentoo (4 days ago). I packed this installation as stage4.tar.bz2 and moved my system to other PC. After stage4 unpacking I installed grub2 from Arch liveUSB and successfully booted into cloned Gentoo. All works fine except some minor grub warnings.
So now my /usr/portage/distfiles directory is empty. How to populate this directory? Is it enough to just copy this directory from PC where stage4 was created? These files are only 4 days old. Or some other way?
Thanks.

/usr/portage/distfiles is just where the source tarballs are cached when you emerge packages - you don't have to keep anything there. It's a good idea to clean it up periodically or it will grow without bound over time. elclean (part of gentoolkit) is good for that.

What Section_8 said is correct, but you can save yourself (and your friendly neighborhood mirror) some bandwidth by copying that directory from your old system. Aggressive cleaning of /usr/portage/distfiles is discouraged for that reason (saving donated bandwidth).
