Portage tries to emerge this as part of emerging GNOME but it fails every time; appears to show an "emake failed". I'm not very good on fixing emerge problems so any help would be appreciated.
As per the error message, here is the build.log: http://paste2.org/p/2470785
emerge --info: http://paste2.org/p/2470788
and emerge -pqv: http://paste2.org/p/2470789
All other packages are up-to-date as far as I can see; System is a VirtualBox guest. Let me know if you need any other info.

Looks like you've simply overestimated your hardware capabilities.
Try i.e. lower than '-j5'. |

I tried again all the way down at -j1, it seemed to get much further along but still failed. Here's the new build.log: http://paste2.org/p/2474088
There are many warning lines, though I know that doesn't necessarily mean a fault/problem. |

Well, since it is still getting killed, I'd assume it's still running out of resources.
I did recently build this without any errors with a thing that has about 512 something of RAM I believe, although it took almost 3 hours, it did it successfully. Seeing this is a VM though, I guess the settings might be a bit low? _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

The guest is given 4 cores from the host's Core i7 920 and there's over 13GiB free on the virtual disk at start of the emerge.
I tried upping the allocated RAM from 512MiB to 1GiB and there seems to have been some amount of progress, though it still failed. Error now says the fault is in the install phase, where it was the compile phase before. Does this emerge job really take so much RAM??

Well, crap... I upped the allocated RAM again to 2GiB and the thing finished; I didn't think it would be such a hog. Guess that's solved for now... >_< |
