Steam for Linux changes my mouse cursor into a a very ugly generic one in GTK apps -- and this change persists even after I close Steam. Specifically the ugly cursor appears when opening context menus. Illustration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0GGyA3p_GA.

Can I prevent it doing that? I tried resetting the cursor in KDE control panel, but it didn't work. Perhaps Stem is exposing a bug in X / GTK?

You probably don't have a gtk theme set up, so you're seeing the default one (which is extremely classic).

Is that a gtk2 or gtk3 app ?
Does oxygen-gtk support both ?

The point is, it only happens after I start Steam. Everything is set up correctly and works before I do so.

I'm also interested in this issue.

I will try to find a solution. Let us know if you find something relevant that might help solving this.

Just a "me too" from me on this. I'm running a gtk2/gtk3 theme and the default black cursor, which I intend to keep.

It might be possible to fix, using LD_PRELOAD and overriding the gtk functions that affect the cursor theme. You'd have to figure out what's being called yourself though.

I installed x11-themes/xcursor-neutral. Using that, the cursor stays the same, and it looks similar to the standard cursror.

I likewise have this issue. It also shows up when using the right click menu in GTK apps, in addition to Steam.
