In case you missed it YDL and PenguinPPC have ppc binaries for the new OO:

Though there are ebuilds for OO, they are not for the faint of heart.

Yep not fun to build ~4.5 gigs of space and a solid day with a fast machine. I think this is the one exception I might make and not build my own from src :)
