Hey, giving my second go at installing Gentoo.
I came accross a problem when emerging genkernel, I decided to just go the alternative route and compile my own kernel. Then when I got to emerging a system logger i got this:
Code:
emerge metalog

I've done some snooping to try and find similar problems with equal sulotions, unfortunetly no solutions have helped thus far. If anyone could help me solve this issue I would appreciate it greatly.

try swapping up your CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS a bit. small change

Code:

-march=native -O2 -pipe

NB: seeing this is also helpful

Code:

/var/tmp/portage/app-admin/metalog-2/work/metalog-2/config.log

Thanks for the reply,

I changed up the CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS like you suggesting to no avail. I'm unsure though once you edit the make.conf file are those settings already good to go in the system, or is there something else needed to do after changing?

Here is what seems to be the problem within
Code:
/var/tmp/portage/app-admin/metalog-2/work/metalog-2/config.log

Code:
configure:4320: $? = 0
configure:4309: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -v >&5

...And an update, I got emerge working!
I'm pretty sure changing changing
LDFLAGS="${LDFLAGS}--as-needed"
To
LDFLAGS="$-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed"
fixed the issue.

yip, just noticed that.

Code:

LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed --as-needed"

Code:

cc1: error: unrecognized command line option "-fas-needed"

on mine

Code:

LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed"

one thing worth noting; --as-needed is included by default now

my LDFLAGS posted above are the defaults. I do not set them at all in make.conf
