Finally decided to take a look at the livedvd as i usually just use the minimal disc, everything seems to boot fine till i get to the login prompt. The FAQ states the user/pass is gentoo/gentoo and to the su into root, but using those just comes back with incorrect password, same with gentoo/blank, root/gentoo, root/blank. Can't think of anymore logical options and searching only shows up those i've tried.
So what is the user/pass?
Edit: So tried a boot from the .iso in VMware and that works and it boots right into KDE, but doesn't from the DVD i burnt, just sits on the login prompt. Guess it could be a bad burn, didn't think it was because it managed to boot and get all the way to the login prompt. I'll try a reburn tomorrow been fiddling with this for the past hour and its a bit late now lol |
For me hitting 'Enter' does the trick for loging in.
As I remember the lifedvd does not have root password for security reasons.
You can gain root privileges in console by issuing :
After that I would recommend you to set your own root password:

I am having the exact same user/pass issue.
If I try to login as root, it will not accept either null or gentoo as the password. If I let it auto login as gentoo and I do anything requiring root, mount volumes etc, it won't accept either as a password. If I switch user when logged on as gentoo it will not permit me to login as root AND it will not accept user/pass gentoo/gentoo to return to previous session.
I am stumped. Any ideas? |

I also noticed that the touchpad is dead when using live DVD forcing me to use external mouse. |

$sudo su
then if you need a password create one
#passwd _________________ www.informationclearinghouse.info

Thanks. That did the trick!
But is the gentoo password really "gentoo"? When I count the mask dots there are only 5 characters. |

How do I use wireless network on LiveDVD. It doesn't find any wireless networks at all and I can only use a LAN which defeats the purpose of a laptop. |

The laptop is a Samsung Series 7, 64bit.
Yes I tried wicd and it finds nothing. Iwconfig also finds nothing.
Quote: | lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions. |
lspci grepping wireless returns nothing.
The funny thing is if I boot from sysrescuecd I have no problem whatsoever. All networks are detected without additional configuration.
If it helps any iwconfig under sysrescuecd returns:
Quote: | lo no wireless extensions.
