I have my freshly built up gentoo install on my RPi, pretty much all of the hard base level packages are emerged. I am running fluxbox and Xorg-server. I can start fluxbox and it works great. However, I can only start it if I go without an xorg.conf file and use defaults. All is good, except its defaulting to a large resolution of 1600x1200 and I want to tweak that to a smaller resolution to improve performance.

The problem I have is that whenever I use "Xorg -configure" I get a 'no devices to configure' message.

I have experimented with video cards.
fbdev seems to be what it uses by default when it does work (based on the Xorg.0.log file generated), but setting fbdev in VIDEO_CARDS doesnt work. Configure appears to see fbdev and tries to load the driver in the log but it fails.

Anyone with a working xorg.conf on the RPi?

njcwotx,

You need the friendly manual.
The Pi doesn't work the way you think it does.

Also, Xorg -configure has been broken for a long time now.
If you do need an xorg.conf these days, write it by hand or copy fragments from /usr/share/...

I ended up using config.txt values to set a lower resolution which ended my need to mess with xorg.conf at this time.

I ended up going without an xorg.conf file. The link provided by Neddy gave me the settings for the config.txt bootfile. I was able to reduce the resolution with those settings. Doesnt mean that someone else may not have figured out what video cards setting to use in xorg.conf. I just found I out I did not need one to set the resolution on the pi. fbdev does not work for me.
