I need your help, guys!
I was trying to change my E17 gtk theme and I tried to explore the rest of the Settings (bad for me).
I pressed "Backlight" (without having change something or press "apply") and from that moment my screen becomes black and returns only with the mouse to be black again after a while!
I'm gonna get crazy, please tell me what to do!

Solution:
Settings Panel --> Blanking --> Uncheck "Enable Screen Blanking" and check "Suspend on blank"!
I don't know how this stuff was checked! I didn't do it, I swear!  |

The bad thing is that all E17 settings are stored in a binary format. I guess it's a feature from some viewpoint, but I fail to see that. I fucked up E17 settings a few times (especially some time ago, when there was more open/unsubmitted bugs and most of them occur more often with multi-screen setups like mine) and can't a way out other then removing ~/.e (you could try removing parts of it that seem right for backlight stuff).
I really wonder why the binary settings format... |

One reason is speed (eet is the file format and the tool). Second reason is that the devs don't want you to mess with the config files manually.

Those reasons I know, but is it really that much faster?
And the ability to mess with them could save one from deleting the whole config. It's not like I'll be making backups of ~/.e each time before opening the settings dialog. |

Yes. It *is* possible to manually hack the config files using eet.
There used to be a way to backup most of your config with the previous incarnation of enlightenment_remote, and then it was possible to restore the part of the config that you could backup. Unfortunately, enlightenment_remote was rewritten about 2-3years ago and a vast amount of its functionality was not restored. It is still possible to restore that functionality by writing some extension, or something, but the devs are more interested in developing other stuff.

Well, I've been wanting to push my lazy ass to some C coding (which I never did a lot of, but miss after 2 year with Java/ATG/Drools). Might just take a look at that in my spare time
(yes, I'm stating this in public to shame myself into not being too lazy ;]) |

| I know that E17 is faster than many other WM, but in my Gentoo install I don't see great difference from Gnome or KDE. I have two other installs (not at the same machine) with E17 which are really fast. Maybe it's hardware issue, I don't know... |

Turn off composite perhaps. That will take away hardware issues.

No. Modules -> Look -> Unload composite.
