Even it's technically a dvd-writer, it's not one per usage.

Sure it can read and write dvd, but sadly in a format that should be hard to find. DVDRAM write mostly CDR, CDRW and DVDRAM disks, as such it's really a dvd writer.
Another vicitim of format battle.
Just like HD-DVD vs Blueray. HD-DVD is a real high capacity dvd reader, in pratice, it's not usable with lack of media to use on it.

You better consider it a cdrw, avoiding pain to use a dead format.

This is a DVD-Writer, which can write CD-R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW and in addition to that DVD-RAM, which will need special media and special support - I'm thinking of useflag. If you can't write DVDs with that device, you either lacking the driver / software or you've got a broken drive.

this is part of detailed specifications of my new laptop.
the cd/dvd drive was having udf configured dvd/rewrite disk writing configuration like a floppy drive.
after i changed it it writes dvd/cd in joilet format as other drives.
otherwise the disk was readable only in this system.
it had been configured for live backup
now it worked ok.
only thing is i don;t remember exactly what i did to correct the default configuration.
any help is welcome.

I don't understand your question. You want to make classic DVD (ISO9660+udf1.02, read-only file system) or to make DVD-RAM disk (udf file system, unrestrictive write, just like floppy disketts)?
