I am trying to get the kernel to boot automatically, but I keep getting the grub prompt instead.I can boot manually by typing
Grub> kernel (hd0,0)/boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-3.3.8-gentoo root=/dev/sda3
Grub> initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-3.3.8-gentoo
I have modified the /boot/grub/grub.conf and still have the problem? |

recommend grub.conf be:
Quote: | default 0
timeout 30
#splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Gentoo Linux 3.3.8
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/3.3.8 root =/dev/ram0 real_root=/dev/sda3
initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-amd64-3.3.8-gentoo |
until this week Quote: | root =/dev/ram0 real_root=/dev/sda3 | was, IIRC, needed in a genkernel grub menu entry. root =/dev/ram0 has disappeared from the Handbook (perhaps a default is invoked??). real_root=/dev/sda3 has remained.
If this fails and you have more than one disk and/or more than 3 partitions post results of _________________ Defund the FCC. |
