Hi,

after the latest emerge (I ran also revdep-rebuild and etc-update, as usual) X displays garbage. The screen looks "almost" fine but it displays video corruption: either half o f the lower part is full of artefacts, or each menu once open has the lower part black and in any case once one tries to move the mouse or a menu everything becomes unrecognizable.

However what is seen is in correct colors and display, so it is not a resolution or sync problem (well it is the internal laptop LCD anyway)

How can I get it back working? Some module that did not rebuild?

lspci lists my card as:

Try this:

Code:

su
qlist -IC x11-drivers/

Then re-emerge everything in the output of the above command. It's possible Xorg was upgraded, and you need to recompile all input device and video drivers when that happens.

xorg-server-1.13 removed support for XAA. This means that drivers are going to fall back to shadowfb, and bugs in that get now exposed. (For example in the neomagic driver.)

Check if setting AccelMethod to EXA helps.

Ok, thanks. I was running without xorg.conf since a long time now, I needed that to add the option.

I do specify XAA and Xorg.0.log confirms this with saying "Using EXA acceleration architecture".

I do not have artefacts anymore, but the slowness is unbearable! moving xterm around is as slow as working with vnc over a slow network or something like that :)

At least I have video again.

Checking the driver manpage and looking around, EXA acceleration should be supported and should work for supersavage. In fact it is enabled for me as the log says. Why do you have an almost unusable performance? Could be there something I need to enable that is now required and wasn't with XAA?

Thanks

glxgears confirms a performance around the 10-20fps! it drops inf act if just anything happens on the screen :) It should be around the 300fps range, according to a data side I found for Xorg...

Furthermore, I can't switch to a console while X is running (ctrl-alt-F1 for example), the diplsay wil be black or full with garbage characters. While it looks like Matrix, it is not very useful :)
