Hello everyone,
So after finally having a success gentoo install, I decided it is time I decide on a Desktop Environment.
So I initially found out I would need xorg in order to get the gnome desktop.
I decided I would follow http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
When I emerge xorg-server though it fails to do a complete install.
This is the emerge --info results:

JmpEax,
Code: | VIDEO_CARDS="nouveau vesa" | needs proper kernel support - some things must be on, some off.
vesa will work with any card made since 1998 but there is no acceleration.
So. Drop nouveau from your VIDEO_CARDS for now and emerge xorg-server again.
Packages you have already emerged will not be rebuilt.
When it fails (if it does) post the build log from the failed package so we can see why. wgetpaste is your friend.
With the vesa driver, Xorg should justwork when you type startx.
We can add nouveau when you have a working Xorg with vesa. _________________ Regards,

Alright so I followed your instruction and removed that section of the VIDEO in the make.conf
Still failed the emerge and here is the build result:

Don't mistake the arch (amd64) and the cpu (k8, amdfam10...)
So an intel cpu running in 64bits will use the amd64 arch, named like that because it please devs, or just because amd were first to introduce x86-64 instructions set.
But the fact intel cpu can run 64bits doesn't mean they are amd cpu. So it's a big mistake to pickup -march=k8 for a core i3
Fix your cflags, with sane value, if you really don't know use -march=native -O2 -pipe
Next to that, you better Code: | emerge -1 gcc glibc binutils | or |

Ahh alright I understand about the CFLAGS now. I was not using the right cpu and gcc name for the architecture I have. |
