Hi,

is it possible to run gnome (X11?) on a "ssh-only" server (no monitor, no graphics card) and just provide a RDP or X server-port to "see" the desktop?
Is there probably a how-to? The client is "Windows XP". I don't know how to setup gnome or X for that.

Thank you very much!

Sima

It is possible of course...

X11 XDM was made for stuff like this, so you can connect remotely graphically.

But for the most part I end up installing x11 normally (most servers have at least some rudimentary graphics card installed in them?) and use VNC to access them. This leaves only the ssh port open and I can tunnel graphics over SSH.
