Hello.

I have a Gentoo system which I installed and set up in a virtual machine, and then transferred to another (much slower) machine once everything was compiled and configured to my liking.

In general, the process went very well... however, I am having issues switching the graphics drivers over after the transition.

Prior to the transfer out of the VM, I had configured my /etc/make.conf file to include the virtual machine video drivers under the VIDEO_CARDS section. Since then, I have narrowed that down to just "intel vesa", to support the target machine itself. An 'emerge -unD --newuse world' followed by an 'emerge --depclean' removed the extra drivers, so I thought I was done.

However, glxinfo still reports this:
Code:
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on i915 (chipset: 945GME)
OpenGL version string: 2.0 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

Note that the OpenGL vendor is 'VMware'. x11-drivers/xf86-video-vmware is not installed, and 'eselect openg list' only gives one option - "xorg-x11", which is selected. 'eselect mesa list' gives options for 'classic' and 'gallium', with 'gallium' being selected. Toggling back and forth did not clear the vendor assignment. If it matters, the system is currently running on the real machine (with Intel graphics), and the last compile of x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel was performed on the real hardware.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there something I have missed, or an additional step that must be performed when switching graphics card drivers? :?:

Thanks.

set it to classic, both for 32bit and 64bit. Then restart X.

Thanks. After the restart, the vendor changed to "Tungsten Graphics"... but performance suffers in 'classic' mode.

Switching back to 'gallium' and restarting X, the vendor again changed back to "VMware".

Perhaps this is a non-issue - I hadn't realized until some searching today that VMware had actually acquired Tungsten Graphics back in 2008... so perhaps the label is correct, and this is just a branding update and not an indication that the 'xf86-video-vmware' driver had not uninstalled completely? But if this is the case, then why would the 'classic' driver still have the Tungsten Graphics branding? :?:

Could you post the glxinfo output from when you're on classic? classic is supposed to perform better than gallium with intel cards.
The reason it says VMware on your gallium output is that VMware is developing gallum, so that's normal.

Sure. Here's the full output.

Thanks for the help, and let me know if there is any other info I could provide.
