I can't get Gentoo to boot after compiling a kernel. The system is a VMWare Workstation 8 image, with VMWare running on Windows 7.

Here's a screenshot of the failed bootscreen:-

The output of fdisk-l is here:

fstab is here:

grub.conf is here:

lspci output is here:

I'm guessing it's something I haven't compiled in the kernel, but can't think or see what. Perhaps someone could tell me the specific option I need checked? I checked all of the LSI SCSI device drivers as kernel drivers, not modules but have run out of ideas.

Any guidance/tips/help appreciated :D

Is your disk on the SCSI interface or the IDE interface?

Ok I solved it.

I needed the 'Fusion MPT device support' options selected in the 'Device Drivers' section of make menuconfig compiled as kernel and not modules*. I didn't think they'd be outside the 'DeviceDrivers|SCSI Device support' section. Silly me!

*Modules may well work but I didn't want to go down that route.
