Hi guys....

.... I was interested on try Sabayon linux, because in some computers I had no time to compile a complete system. Some days ago searching about it I found this article:

http://www.jumpingbean.co.za/blogs/mark/convert_gentoo_to_sabayon

This article suggest to add the sabayon overlay with the porpouse to convert gentoo to sabayon..... and then I had some doubts....

Sabayon overlay its a Binary package overlay? So I can install binaries in my system (gentoo).
or
I had only available the packages that came with sabayon for compiling on my gentoo??

thanks....

neither of both

via layman you add an overlay to the existing main (gentoo) repository

so you have ebuilds and still need to compile the sabayon apps

basically you have a gentoo system with additional apps/ebuilds and some of the ebuilds from gentoo are replaced by the ones from sabayon

So, the only alternative would be to install sabayon to have binary packages?

or I can install the package manager of sabayon in gentoo? I suppose this will generate a big mess in the system, not?

Regards.

if entropy/equo or rigo are in the overlays it should work (just checked: equo and entropy are; not sure how to get rigo)

you might need to set up repository files to get the binaries

for more info - it probably would be better to ask in the sabayon forums
