hello everyone
i discovered lately funtoo. what the name suggests, is not important, but from what i've read in funtoo's creator's blog, a lot of political and philosophical issues seem to be going on behind the curtain, or at least not discussed openly in gentoo's community. are they of any interest to the project ?
i mean, the idea behind the open-source philosophy is indeed one of the most interesting phenomena that emerged in the last years.
ownership, property, pride, recognition, ego... all these were abandoned for the sake of the project itself. Software has been freed from human greed and cheap ambitions, and finally acquired a life of its own.
Programs became living organisms, natural ecosystems. and gentoo is one of the most interesting and intelligent projects out there. the gentoo community is a proof, and the gentoo system mimics life-like examples... it seems to me of very great importance to discuss such issues whenever they appear, and to preserve the coherence of open-source projects.
what is the story with funtoo, and why isn't merging both projects a better idea than working separately on them ?
is gentoo getting rigid and incoherent, or is it just following it's own path with it's own pace ?
is gentoo fully free from human related stupid issues ?
is this topic useful at all ?
cheers everyone _________________ the suspicious mind conjures it's own demons |

All of the political crap happened a few years ago, and is pretty much over now, thank fsck. Gentoo functions much better as a community nowadays, imo, and delivers software developed for the sake of it, without any one ego dominating.
So, no, krinn's right: there isn't really any point digging over old coals. |
