didn't read your entire question and all its data, but the problem i notices following the instructions etc was:

a directory /boot is created, but even if my /dev/hda2 (my boot partition) was not mounted, it still contained data. (probably from my / partition)

mounting the boot partition to another new dir showed it empty. in that new dir, make a /boot and a /grub , copy the nececairy files to the dirs and tryed again.

worked for me.

What doesn't work? Can grub boot any of your os's?

Looks like your grub menu is ok, except it doesn't really say "kernek" does it?

Can you check your /boot menu and see if your bzImage is really there?

Mark.

I had a problem with Grub and partitions. I had /boot & / in an extended partition. Until I put /boot into a primary partition,
it wouldn't work. Looks like you may have a similar problem.

This thread was a double post and was already solved in the other thread. I'll lock this one now. Thanks LibraMark and Guest for trying to help, and sorry for your wasted time.
