Hi,
just installed gentoo - nice
went to emerge xfce - things worked great until it got to arts-1.0.3.tar.bz2, then I got a 404 not found error - could not find arts-1.0.3.tar.bz2. I looked in http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/distfiles/ and the file is not there - how do I fix this?
Also, I did an emerge rsync and still got the same error. |

It is just an IDEA! Perhaps an even stupid one. Copy the arts-1.0.6.tar.bz2 into your /usr/portage/distfiles and name it arts-1.0.3.tar.bz2. Perhaps it works, perhaps so much changed that your system will explode and kill your hamster... |

Well, you'll have to do it for many many packages because KDE 3.0.3 has vanished from the mirrors and has been replaced with KDE 3.0.6. Only problem is that KDE 3.0.6 is not in the package list while 3.0.3 is...so, I'm not sure what they want us to do. I guess if your a new Gentoo user or installing Gentoo you can't have KDE until they get around to fixing it. |

Add the line Code: | >=kdebase-3.0.3.tar.bz2 | to your /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask file and you can emerge kde 3.0.2 and check back on the forums to see when the kde bug is fixed. From what I understand the bug only affects people who use Konquorer as an internet explorer for ssl transactions. You can simply emerge mozilla or something to use a different web browser. Hi, as I understand the posts, the arts file is missing and it's related to a kde bug. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I mean, I had a whole list of things to download. How can I tell gentoo to forget about doing that download and go on to the next or to something else to keep busy? rj

I really am quite befuddled. I just emerged kde 3.0.0 and arts 1.0.3 without a problem. This was probably two hours ago at most. Maybe you could give it another try? _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Despite of this arts-problem: The kde-3.0.3 problem can be solved by updating your portage. Perhaps you should try an "emerge rsync; emerge portage"? |
