|
|
Sorry if I missed a blatant announcement or post (I searched! Really!), but am I the only one getting an updated portage tree (including things like xmame 0.60.1 and the nvidia 2960 drivers)? The mirrors haven't updated to these yet as far as I can see. They all say 404 not found...
Code: | [root@ender.nerd.obsessive] >emerge xmame
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge app-emulation/xmame-0.60.1 to /
>>> Downloading http://www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/distfiles/xmame-0.60.1.tar.bz2
--12:55:26-- http://www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/distfiles/xmame-0.60.1.tar.bz2
=> `/usr/portage/distfiles/xmame-0.60.1.tar.bz2'
Resolving www.ibiblio.org... done.
Connecting to www.ibiblio.org[152.2.210.81]:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
12:55:26 ERROR 404: Not Found. |
Not a big deal or anything, but I'm certain I'm missing something because no else has brought this up. Someone want to enlighten me? |

If they're not on the mirror servers, the source will be downloaded from the original side, can't put every source on the mirror server. So if it ain't their, too bad, but it ain't a problem.
Got nvidia 2960 installed without a problem, don't even noticed it wasn't on ibiblio and that it downloaded from the original side; well mirror can be nice for speed and also when a site is temporarly unreachable. _________________ "Remember there's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over.", Frank Zappa |

I noticed the same problem. Seems kind of odd, I admit. My understanding was that Gentoo was supposed to mirror all of the sources on ibiblio -- maybe it's just taking a while for the source trees to sync up.
emerge will try to use multiple mirrors -- just list as many as you'd like in your /etc/make.conf file under the GENTOO_MIRRORS setting. (you can get a list of mirrors on the front page of gentoo.org) I've been able to work around the problem simply by defining two or three mirrors in my make.conf file. (as a last resort, emerge will also try to download the source from the SRC_URI defined in the actual ebuild.)

Well, I have *every* mirror defined in there (which could be part of my problem - I get too impatient to wait it out and a couple of them seem to hang). I put it down to no mirrors and it did as stated above - downloaded from the homepage. A couple of the mirrors seem to be out of commission (flash.net and freesoftware.com), but none of the mirrors appear to be updated (at least w/ xmame, fluxbox 0.1.9 and nvidia drivers). |

You might consider running:
as a nightly/weekly/whatever cron job. Then, you don't have to worry about being impatient and you'll always have the latest source tarballs at your fingertips when you want to actually update world.
Doesn't solve the original problem, I realize -- just a tangental suggestion.

I won't call it a problem but a minor glitch, _________________ "Remember there's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over.", Frank Zappa |

Changed my GENTOO_MIRRORS to "" and it also worked, thanks HandsomePete
However I've looked on the Gentoo bugs list and it doesn't seem to have been reported ? Does anybody know if there is a bug report ? Bugzilla interface is fairly horrible so I might just not be using it correctly.
