Hi, ALL,

Is there anything I need to take care after such an upgrade:

Code:

IgorReinCloud igor # emerge -pv firefox

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Thank you.

I needed this version for the vmware product but now I don't need it anymore.

Thank you.

P.S.: Probably this does not belong here. If it's not please don't kick me too hard. ;-)

This is not downgrading, but upgrading. ;-)

So there is no culprits? Just straight upgrade?

Thank you.

should be a straight upgrade (although I have not upgraded from 3.6 to 10.0, but went thought the version in-between).

mozilla just changed their release policy, and recreated a stable branch. 10.0 is one of those stable version, therefore i assume a flawless upgrade.
17.0 will be next major stable version, which will be available somewhen in autumn. details

The worst that could happen is your preferences or bookmarks not getting ported over to the new version (highly doubt it though, there haven't been fundamental changes to the layout), so you might consider backing up your bookmarks just in case.

Hi,
Well, it does require an upgrade to libpng and libjpeg-turbo. That's why I was asking.

Thank you.

firefox depend on virtual/jpeg and media-libs/libpng[apng], therefore no upgrade should be required.
in addition, all version of libpng, libjepeg-turbo and jpeg are stable.

if there is an upgrade, then it is no caused by firefox itself.

Hi,
This is what I got afterwards:

Code:

 * Messages for package media-libs/libpng-1.5.10:

 * Old versions of installed libraries were detected on your system.
 * In order to avoid breaking packages that depend on these old libs,
 * the libraries are not being removed.  You need to run revdep-rebuild
 * in order to remove these old dependencies.  If you do not have this
 * helper program, simply emerge the 'gentoolkit' package.
 *
 *   # revdep-rebuild --library '/usr/lib64/libpng14.so.14'
 *
 * Once you've finished running revdep-rebuild, it should be safe to
 * delete the old libraries.  Here is a copy & paste for the lazy:
 *   # rm '/usr/lib64/libpng14.so.14'

 * Messages for package www-client/firefox-10.0.4:

 * You are enabling official branding. You may not redistribute this build
 * to any users on your network or the internet. Doing so puts yourself into
 * a legal problem with Mozilla Foundation
 * You can disable it by emerging firefox _with_ the bindist USE-flag

But doing "revdep-rebuild" I am receiving:

Code:

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

 * revdep-rebuild failed to emerge all packages.
 * you have the following choices:
 * - If emerge failed during the build, fix the problems and re-run revdep-rebuild.
 * - Use /etc/portage/package.keywords to unmask a newer version of the package.
 *   (and remove 5_order.rr to be evaluated again)
 * - Modify the above emerge command and run it manually.
 * - Compile or unmerge unsatisfied packages manually,
 *   remove temporary files, and try again.
 *   (you can edit package/ebuild list first)
 * To remove temporary files, please run:
 * rm /var/cache/revdep-rebuild/*.rr

How do I resolve it?

I want to stay with GTK+2/GNOME 2....

Thank you.

Ah, it's pulling in upgrades as welll...
What does
Code:
emerge -uavDN world

say?
If you can emerge right away then just proceed with the world upgrade then retry to run revdep-rebuild.

Hi,
Please see above. I want to stay with GTK+2/GNOME 2.

Now, "revdep-rebuild" generated following command:
Code:

emerge --complete-graph=y --oneshot   app-cdr/brasero:0 app-text/ghostscript-gpl:0 dev-cpp/cairomm:0 dev-util/glade:3 gnome-base/gdm:0 gnome-base/gnome-panel:0 gnome-base/libglade:2.0 gnome-extra/gnome-media:2 gnome-extra/polkit-gnome:0 mail-client/evolution:2.0 media-gfx/gtkimageview:0 media-libs/gd:2 media-libs/libcanberra:0 media-libs/swfdec:0 net-libs/gtk-vnc:0 net-libs/webkit-gtk:2 x11-libs/cairo:0 x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf:2 x11-libs/libgksu:2 x11-libs/qt-gui:4

Trying to make a manual rebuild I am getting:
Code:

IgorReinCloud igor # emerge -pv --complete-graph=y --oneshot brasero

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

I opened another thread in "Portage and Programming" forum as this clearly belongs there.

Thank you.
