Recent world update caused an emerge @preserved-rebuild - that causes webkit-gtk to be rebuilt. But it is failing. (I'm on amd_64 unstable). I can file a bug but thought I would quick check here in case I'm missing something (highly likely).

Here's a snip of the fail:
Code:
 CXX    Source/WebCore/platform/gtk/libWebCoreGtk_la-WidgetRenderingContext.lo
  CXX    Source/WebCore/plugins/gtk/libWebCoreGtk_la-PluginPackageGtk.lo
  CXX    Source/WebCore/plugins/gtk/libWebCoreGtk_la-PluginViewGtk.lo
  CXX    Source/WebCore/platform/gtk/libWebCoreGtk_la-GtkWidgetBackingStoreX11.lo
  CC     Source/WebCore/plugins/gtk/libWebCoreGtk_la-gtk2xtbin.lo
  CXX    Source/WebCore/platform/graphics/pango/libWebCoreGtk_la-FontPango.lo
  CXX    Source/WebCore/platform/graphics/freetype/libWebCoreGtk_la-FontPlatformDataFreeType.lo
  CXXLD  libWebCoreGtk.la
  CXXLD  libwebkitgtk-3.0.la
./.libs/libWebCore.a: member ./.libs/libWebCore.a(libWebCore_la-SVGTextElement.o) in archive is not an object
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [libwebkitgtk-3.0.la] Error 1

Help appreciated! Thanks, Jim (emerge info following):

Check first for disk space / memory limits and ccache problems.

thanks VoidMage for the help.

I have a 100GB hdrive with 42% available for root directory / and a largish /home drive with tons of space.
I checked memory with top and saw that it was very low.. so I cleared system cache and got back 5 to 6GB ram free.
I didn't know how to check for ccache problems so I disabled it in make.conf by taking it out of FEATURES and commenting out the size.

And Voila` - it worked. So clearing up ram and/or disabling ccache worked. Thanks again.

(that cache is worrisome - wonder how people manage that. It had used up 7 of my 8GB of ram.)

cheers, JD

Well, MAKEOPTS="-j7" certainly didn't help.

Before taking your other suggestions, I did try setting it to -j1 with no positive result, as a dissimilar bug on gentoo bugs mentioned that problem.

cheers, JD
