|
|
Hi,
I just installed the d3 beta with wine. After patching wine the installation was successful, but when I start the game I get the "your graphic hardware is too old :p"-message. Is there any way to play d3 with the open source radeon drivers (xf86-video-ati with KMS)?
Or will there be in the future. Does anyone know which features the xf86-video-ati driver is missing and/or if those features are on the 'todo' list?
I know that I could use the fglrx-drivers, but since my system is running totally fine now and installing fglrx is a major pain in the ***, I would rather install windows on a separate partition..

Teegrins, danielcb!
Unfortunately, I know very little about using ATI graphics with Linux and I know about Diablo 3 even less (except for that it looks like Diablo 2 with a quick glance), so I don't really have any tips on it specifically. I would like to suggest you to, if you haven't yet, check the #winehq channel at irc.freenode.net where many a knowledgeable person oft dwell.
Good luck! _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Code: |
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Caicos [Radeon HD 6450]
|
Not one that is on Blizzards list.
And for D3: there are two patches on the winehq bugtracker. Without them I couldn't install the game. |

Thanx for the patches, if u have HD 6450 why not use fglrx driver? U should get better performance with that. |

A shot in the dark, but do you have media-libs/libtxc_dxtn installed? It adds some additional functions to Mesa that some games want, but it's patented and can't be added to it. _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

Thanks Etal! After installing media-libs/libtxc_dxtn it works.
@tomtomp because I really like the idea of opensource drivers and because I like KMS. Also I used fglrx in the past and got screenfreezes, kernel panics and the like. |

I've got very bad performance and _very_ low framerates. It's not playable, but I think that might be, because of the xf86-video-ati drivers?
My system:
Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00 Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 6400 2GB DDR RAM
4GB RAM
Although not a super fast gaming system, it should be more than enough for good framerates on reasonable settings. |

Hm... thanks.
I have a 512MB nvidia gforce 8400gs. I hope that is enough for DIII.
Will have to try once I got it. _________________ Kali Ma

So... I'm probably out of luck with my good old GMA4500 onboard graphics... |
