3v4n_D,

Welcome to Gentoo.

Your problems is not with genkernel itself, its with cpio, which is a package it depends on.
Please post /var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/temp/build.log.

The easiest way for you to do that is
Code:
emerge wgetpaste
wgetpaste /var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/temp/build.log
then tell us the URL you get.

Hi, are you chrooting into the environment? I am asking this because, i recently had a problem where the SAME dependency would not work when i chrooted into gentoo. The solution is simply to make sure that proc is mounted, and just for good measure dev is also.
if you are in a chrooted environment. exit out of it and mount proc and dev with the following codes, with the /mnt/gentoo being replaced with where your gentoo is mounted at.
Code:

sudo mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc

and to mount dev
Code:

sudo mount -o bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev

I hope this helped.

it did !!!

i made
Code:
#mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
#mount -o bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
instead of
Code:
#mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
#mount --rbind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
and the problem got solved

Hi, there.

I am experiencing the exact (from what i read) same issue, except for the line numbers.
(That's the reason I did not want to open a new thread - because the symptoms are identical.)
BUT: I do it in a virtualbox, if that matters.

Code:
>>> Emerging (1 of 2) app-arch/cpio-2.11
openpty failed: 'out of pty devices'
...
!!! Please attach the following file when seeking support:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/work/cpio-2.11/config.log
 * ERROR: app-arch/cpio-2.11 failed (configure phase):
 *   econf failed

 *          ebuild.sh, line   93:  Called src_configure
 *        environment, line 1998:  Called econf '--enable-nls' '--bindir=/bin' '--with-rmt=/usr/sbin/rmt'
 *   phase-helpers.sh, line  501:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *                      die "econf failed"
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=app-arch/cpio-2.11'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=app-arch/cpio-2.11'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/temp/environment'.
 * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/work/cpio-2.11'
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/app-arch/cpio-2.11/work/cpio-2.11'

I already tried chrooting out and remounting /dev and /proc with no success.

Find my wgetpaste here:
http://bpaste.net/show/73615/

Thanks in advance.
