Hi,
is it possible to install a gentoo - but without the neccessary tools - I want to install package from outside the system.
The tools take up a lot of space and iam trying to build a system as small as possible - is this possible with gentoo?? |

bastibasti,
If you mean can you build the package, or even the entire install on another system, then move the binaries to the target - Yes.
There are several ways to copy over the install and leave the bulk behind, so you have a working system. It depends on howm much space you have.
You can copy everything except /usr/portage and /usr/src to the target.
You can set up a BINHOST on the build system then use emerge -K on the target and have it fetch binary packages from the buildhost. That will be a bit smaller.
This can be done for single packages too _________________ Regards,
