sys-devel/binutils-2.21.1-r1 was built with the following:
USE="nls -multislot -multitarget -static-libs -test -vanilla"
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe"

Quote:
celeron ~ # emerge -pqv =sys-devel/binutils-2.21.1-r1
[ebuild R ] sys-devel/binutils-2.21.1-r1 USE="nls zlib%* -multislot -multitarget -static-libs -test -vanilla"

* IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

And in the build log, I found this very suspicious :
Quote:

/bin/sh ./libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -W -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wshadow -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -o objdump objdump.o dwarf.o prdbg.o rddbg.o debug.o stabs.o ieee.o rdcoff.o bucomm.o version.o filemode.o elfcomm.o ../opcodes/libopcodes.la ../bfd/libbfd.la ../libiberty/libiberty.a yes

gcc: yes: No such file or directory
make[4]: *** [size] Error 1

In addition, during configure stage, I got following strange things :
Quote:

Any clue ?

Thanks

same problem here, there is another error inside the logs:

then starts with the missing "yes" file errors

I got this error too ... but after the "yes".

In addition, this system is used as a binhost for another system I'm installing. On this second system, I need to do some local compilation (because it has some specific packages not needed elsewhere).
And I have also on it a strange compilation problem :

So something seems having messed up my (our ?) compile chain :?

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads. See binutils-2.21-r1 fails with USE=zlib.
