#1 veryfy ( nano /etc/resolve.conf )
has an -> namerserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is isp dns server

#2 nano /etc/make.conf

if portage_mirrors ="" <--- empty..

jsut go to

http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml

and add one in there. like this
portage_mirrors ="http://www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo"

verify portage_mirror is riught variable burt its the last one in there made by mirrorselect .
