Hi all,

After an update -uavDN world, every time I start firefox I get this error in a popup box:

Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Cannot spawn a message bus without a machine-id: Unable to load /var/lib/dbus/machine-id: Failed to open file '/var/lib/dbus/machine-id': No such file or directory)

Looks like a dbus problem, but I really don't know much more than that. I have tried restarting dbus - no luck. I do use qingy to log in - in the past I think qingy/dbus/ConsoleKit, etc had problems, but there was a way to fix it or it was fixed, but that was long ago and I can't find any references to this problem. Could someone help me figure out how to get this to work correctly. Thanks in adavance!

One thing I just noticed - if I use dbus-launch firefox from the command line, it works fine, but when I launch it from my openbox menu (right click, firefox) I have problems. In the past, I never had to use dbus-launch, but I could from the menu - but this seems like a band-aid and not working the right way.

Just downgrade to dbus-1.4.6 (stable amd64), do etc-update and replace /etc/init.d/dbus, then upgrade to dbus-1.4.6-r2 (~amd64) but keep the old /etc/init.d/dbus

Thank you - I forgot to check there - I spent all my time on the web looking for an answer - sometimes I overlook the obvious.

Thanks!
