hi there,
i'm searching for the command that gnome runs to show the volume control popup. for example if i have assigned the event 'louder' to the button L in the gnome multimedia button daemon, what does gnome do when i press L?
thanks and greets,

I think you can use acme for this.
You can find a shortcut to acme through the gnome-menu:
Code: | Program -> Desktop Preferences -> Multimedia Keys |
(I'm not really sure what you are after, but this is what I think you would need) _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

I think by "what does gnome do" you mean "what does acme do". Acme is the multimedia button daemon he mentionned.
Acme's volume control is built-in. The source isnt very large if you wanted to have a peek yourself. _________________ --

yes, i mean what does acme do. because of the fact that the extra buttons of my vaio can't be recogniced by any program that does not know the sonypi interface i would like to add this feature (popups when i change the volume, brightness ....) to a scribt i use that can access these buttons.

You can do something with a nice program called Aumix. I bet you could run a script that would execute or on pressing the special keys on the Sony keyboard. Have you set them in your XF86Config? _________________ old outdated sig |

these things do work already. i just don't have these popups like in acme thats why i'm asking. i don't want to add a new function to my script, i just want to bring up the popup when changing the volume level instead of just doing this in the background.
