How i can compile a kernel version that will work in other machines? like a 486... ?

Just set your "processor family" to 486 (or whatever your oldest CPU is) and make sure you've included things like agpgart, IDE and SCSI support for all the devices you'll be using in all your computers. It is usually easier in this situation to compile everything into the kernel instead of having to copy modules over to the other computers. You may also want to look into using an initrd in palce of a monolithic kernel in this situation.
Edit: sorry, I was thinking you wanted to use the same kernel in all your computers. You should be fine just setting the "processor family" to 486 and compiling as usual, although you may run into broblems if gcc and glibc differ (although I'm not too sure on this). |
