After the success of the 2010 Screenshot Contest the Contest Team is doing it again!

Gentoo Users, Developers, and Staffers are encouraged to submit their sweetest screenshots. This year likewhoa went all out and put together a custom cms for us to use for the contest. Please head over to the 2011 Contest Page for all of the details.

OK enough talk, get started tricking out that desktop.

If you want to talk to us, send us an email at screenshots_at_gentoo_dot_org or join #gentoo-screenshots on freenode network

If you want to get a really good look at a screenshot, with Firefox I right click and view image, then click open the area I want to examine.

"emerge --info | head -n 1" don't work as expected here :oops:
Code:
[emerge --info | head -n 1
app-shells/bash:          4.2_p10

The Portage <version> line is only printed on interactive terminals :!:

My portage version :
Quote:
emerge --info
Portage 2.2.0_alpha43 (default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/kde, gcc-4.5.2, glibc-2.13-r2, 2.6.39-gentoo-r2 x86_64)
=================================================================
System uname: Linux-2.6.39-gentoo-r2-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-_i7_CPU_930_@_2.80GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.3

Quote:
Contest Details

2.- No more than three screenshots per contestant.

When you talk about three sreenshots, are you referring to three screenshots of the same desktop?
Can I send a single screenshot for each different customized desktop (Maybe 2, maybe 3).

My first time in this contest, I'll give my best :)

Not bumping...

Another question:

http://sc.gentooligans.com/image/anonymous/2011/07/02/trippelss-wmii-desktop

This screenshot counts as one?

Thank you, Sir.

I think I'll submit one of those two-in-one screenshot and two separately of the same desktop.

Yeah that's going to be hard to work around. Looks like portage both checks for a tty and for TERM being set in quite a number of places.
Code:
isatty = os.environ.get('TERM') != 'dumb' and sys.stdout.isatty()

You probably can't easily trick the isatty checks. Best bet is to patch portage or just grep for the sting you want.

None of my favorites made the top 5. Of the winners I like ifenslave's. Nice wallpaper and plasma theme.

I'd love to know how ifenslave's desktop has the dmesg, top and other terminal texts transparently overlaid onto their KDE wallpaper like that. I've tried asking by leaving a comment on gentooligans.com, but my comment was never approved.

I used to do it with Conky using exec or texeci which can be made to look exactly like that. With xmonad I rarely see my desktop so I no longer use conky.

Heh, wished I knew more about Gentoo, and custom WM's, I'd love to get my own WM and other stuff on here, =P.
