Unable to compile gobject-introspection [solved]

  • Quote

Post by jonfr » Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:37 pm

I am unable to compile gobject-introspection. It always fails. My attempts to fix this issue have not turned up anything useful.

Here is the compile error.

This computer was last updated about one year ago. I do not own this computer. But I sometimes asked to maintain it when needed. Thanks for the help.

Hi jonfr

First of all, which versions of cairo and glib are you using? (If they are the latest, have you considered rebuilding them?)
Whatever you do, do it properly!

Here are the versions of cario and glib that I am using.

Code: Select all

emerge cairo glib -p

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] dev-libs/glib-2.28.8
[ebuild R ] x11-libs/cairo-1.10.2-r1
I have tried to rebuild most of this system. But nothing seems to work properly, as I am still stuck with several compile issues that I am not able to resolve.

From the following:

Code: Select all

g-ir-scanner: GLib: warning: 484 warnings suppressed (use --warn-all to see them)
   GISCAN GObject-2.0.gir
   GISCAN GModule-2.0.gir
   GICOMP GLib-2.0.gir
g-ir-scanner: GModule: warning: 1 warnings suppressed (use --warn-all to see them)
   GICOMP GModule-2.0.gir
/var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/gobject-introspection-0.10.8/work/gobject-introspection-0.10.8/tmp-introspectRSoXQR/GObject-2.0: symbol lookup error: /var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/gobject-introspection-0.10.8/work/gobject-introspection-0.10.8/tmp-introspectRSoXQR/GObject-2.0: undefined symbol: g_binding_flags_get_type
I get the impression due to the symbol lookup errors, it may be an issue with gcc.
I was going to suggest upgrading GCC to the ~ 4.5.2 and give it a try, but there might be no need to do that.
So, first of all, can you re-emerge the existing:

Code: Select all

sys-libs/glibc-2.12.2
dev-libs/glib-2.28.8
sys-devel/gcc-4.4.5
Goject-Introspection-0.10.8 is stable, and as such, I see no reason why you should upgrade to an unstable compiler.
But I have upgraded to an unstable GCC-4.5.2 for some reason, and I can't remember exactly why I had to.
But I do know gobject-introspection is compiling ok with the unstable version.

Sometimes a re-emerge of some existing libraries can do the trick.

Fingers crossed.
Whatever you do, do it properly!

This is not the only package that I have been having problems with. So I might have to test this after a attempt to do a revdep-rebuild on gmp-5.0.2 and few other packages. But gcc-4.4.5 is going to be recompiled in this rebuild.

See the other compile fail here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-894408.html

That is why I suggest the rebuild of those 3 packages, BEFORE you do anything else.
Very important.
They are the packages which deal with all the compiling and building on your system, so please start with those 3, then we can move on.
Whatever you do, do it properly!

gobject-introspection compiles fine. I did somehow fix this issue some time ago. But I am having other issues with other packages. I am marking this as solved. But sadly I do not know how this was solved.
