Hi this is continued from https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6794504.html#6794504
I tried to install MineCraft Server and I ran into heaps of major issues.
OpenRC, UDev etc have cyclic redundancies.

To clarify, it wasn't really anything to do with Minecraft, the system hadn't been updated for years. |

cyclic deps: deactivate the feature (eg via USE-flag) that is causing it and install one pkg, aftward the other, the the first on WITH the previously deactivated feature enabled
blocks (eg because of ridiculously outdated versions): read the corresponding ebuilds and install the lastest version possible (which is most certainly not the latest version available)
file-collisions: disable collision-protection via FEATURES-variable (per emerge or globally via make.conf) (or delete the protected files files manually before the emerge (q&d but dangerous)
it's probably the best idea to do a clean and new install; if you have some diskspace left you can do it inside a chroot or sth w/out changing the old system.
GOOD LUCK! _________________ DUMM KLICKT GUT. |

I think I'll just have to give up on installing minecraft-server.
If I much with the system much more it's likely not to recover from a re-boot.
It has run everything else fine for over 3 years now. (Apache, Asterisk, PHPbb, StormForce, Joomla, and so on).
Best to leave it alone before I loose the server. Too many years of hard work have gone ito setting it up.
BTW I am still getting this..

If I remove UDEV to emerge the other bits it will trash the system won't it?

Most likely, don't remove udev. But don't leave it like this either, it's only going to get worse with time. I can guide you through this if necessary. What's currently stopping you from updating udev?

Did you see my comment in the other thread? Update qemu-kvm or remove it and reinstall it later. Then you can update linux-headers, then udev, then hopefully OpenRC and the rest of "emerge system". |

Yep, I followed that trail.
qemu-kvm removed OK. But linux-headers wouldn't emerge.
Blocked once again.

Okay but why? Help me to help you here. It was due to a file collision before. If the file is still there, just remove it. |
