Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

You could possibly either run emerge -C kde-meta, then emerge --depclean. What I've done before which works is go to the /usr/portage/kde-base and /usr/portage/kde-misc and run emerge -C *, this should remove all the kde packages if that is your goal...

Did your emerge kde-meta successfully finish? If portage complains about not being able to find an installed kde-meta, maybe the emerge failed at some point. You can use the depclean option from emerge to uninstall all packages which are no longer needed.

No the emerg kde-meta dint finish successfully that y i need to unmerge.

zac # emerge -C kde-meta
* This action can remove important packages! In order to be safer, use
* `emerge -pv --depclean <atom>` to check for reverse dependencies before
* removing packages.

--- Couldn't find 'kde-meta' to unmerge.

>>> No packages selected for removal by unmerge

* IMPORTANT: 7 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

zac kde-base# emerge -C *
!!! 'metadata.xml' is not a valid package atom.
!!! Please check ebuild(5) for full details.

* IMPORTANT: 7 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

zac kde-base # emerge -C *

You cannot use emerge -C * as this would uninstall all and every package. Does emerge --info kde-meta gives you any information about the kde-meta Package Settings or just about the System Settings?

Code: Select all

                        Package Settings

Post whats below this line. If these lines do not appear, you don't have kde-meta installed!!

If kde-meta wasn't merged then you can't uninstall it. Just like you can't demolish a house if you didn't build it first.

If what you want is to remove the orphan dependencies, use emerge --depclean, revise carefully the list, and then hit "yes".
