I just noticed that when I boot "install-x86-minimal-20110719.iso", it shows a login prompt, but "install-x86-minimal-20110712.iso" puts me straight to the bash prompt.

Q1) Is this intentional?
Q2) If so, what is the login ID and password for 20110719?

I feel the same. What is the default password "root"?

Unintentional. Straight to the bash prompt is the correct behavior. The developer responsible for building the ISOs has been notified and he's looking into it. (See bug #375857; no details yet, though.)

In the mean time, the exact version of the minimal install CD isn't really important as nothing from the install CD ends up in the Gentoo install. Just use the older one or an alternate like SystemRescueCD and move on ahead. :)

@LuzbeL, sorry; the old ISOs are deleted from the download servers. I notice that you joined the forums back in April of 2010. If you have an ISO from some time earlier then that will work just fine. The SystemRescueCD is a Gentoo-based LiveCD that can be used to install Gentoo while following the Gentoo Handbook almost exactly. It can be downloaded on their site, here.

Greetings and thanks! :)

As this iso is totally useless, it will be a good thing to remove it from the download page. I lost at least 2 hours to search the user/passwd to use or what I ve done wrong when I've created my usbstick :-(.

genhappyok, As LuzbeL pointed out above, just use an earlier version of the ISO and keep going.

As of 11:42am UTC, this issue had been fixed. The offending version has been removed from the mirrors and the build process that resulted in the error has been addressed.
