I've seen a few posts (semi-recent) that are having trouble with xorg and nvidia. In some cases, the only "error" messages are related to dri. Xorg errors shows these as an (EE) type error, but in reality, the dri "errors" are the expected behavior of nvidia's proprietary drivers (aka, x11-driver/nvidia-drivers). Other than those (non-cause-of-failure) indicators, the screen may either be blank or xdm/gdm/kdm will display with no driver input [the problems may be unrelated and the second set of problems may have been cause by me being sloppy with xorg-server to xorg-driver versioning].
I struggled with several versions, but I finally had success with:
Code: |
[IP-] [ ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.3:0
[IP-] [ ] x11-base/xorg-drivers-1.10:0
[IP-] [ ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-275.19:0
|
(I didn't play with kernels but I'm running gentoo-sources 2.6.34-gentoo-r12)
Incidentally, these versions also restored my ability to use a (long time) working xorg.conf file that mysteriously stopped working in January. On a whim, I copied it over to xorg.conf and fired things up. Voila!
Best,
