Well I get sound if I use alsa9 option, but it's ugly with noise... so why don't you guys also include oss sound support when compiling mplayer? The alsa support of mplayer is still in developement afaik. I use oss plugin for xmms and this works fine (I loaded the pcm-oss emulation module).

Anyway since I'm just started with gentoo today, is there a easy way to edit the compile options without doing all by myself?

If OSS is in your USE flags then mplayer should be compiled with OSS support, it was for me. alsa9 works fine for me, did you take a good look at your mixer levels, maybe something is too high.

"mplayer -ao help" will list the audio output drivers available.

If you don't know what the USE flags are then you can read this:

thx, didn't read about the USE var yet, but nice hint!

And about my mixer settings, after I had done my fight with some missing or wrong permission settings in /dev/.. Anyway XMMS plays sound well. So I don't think my mixer settings are the problem ^^

And yeah mplayer -ao help told me why -ao oss didn't work :P

Thx, I think I'll get it working... I _hope_ it will work with oss :)
