Replace the OS on cell phone?

I've had a Samsung Intensity II for a few months and I think it is really boring. I was wondering if it is possible to install linux (or some other OS) on the phone and make it more useful. It'd be pretty cool using the terminal on it's qwerty keyboard.

I know it sounds too good to be true and maybe it is, but I'd like to try anyway. I'd figure I'd open it up and sniff around in my free time. So why is this thread here? I might be able to make more progress if there are other people reading this. Also, it's nice to have some place to write down my progress (if any).

Here's what I'm thinking: Maybe the most realistic way to go about it is to flash a very simple kernel written from the ground up that does nothing but flash lights and maybe drive the screen. (You could definitely write some more complicated stuff, but if you have at least that down, then an OS is probably possible). For this I would need to know what memory address the processor looks for the boot vector and what address space it assumes. Also I need to know about the SRAM and detailed workings of all the other parts. The Intensity II uses a proprietary processor and OS. From looking, I can see that the process is from Qualcomm and I think the model number is the QSC6055. If anyone has or can get datasheets for these parts, that would be great!

I've been looking for datasheets and it seems to me that the Qualcomm IC is more likely to be some sort of wireless communication controller now that I think about it. Know how to use that might still be really cool.

Update: Broke my phone! I snapped the wire that connects both parts of the sliding phone together...

Oh well. I guess I'll put this away and see if I can salvage the parts... :/
