Fluxbox works but too dark

I have fluxbox working upon startx. I see the task bar at the bottom but...

the desktop backround is black. When I right click for a menu i get a blank black box I dont see the menu items until i mouse over them.

I am sure this has to do with color settings or something. I have not edited the default XF86Config other than setting the "modes".

mabey your theme is supposed to be that way? or you could try xgamma
like `xgamma -gamma 1.5`

I am using the default theme which if I remember is very bland so I dont think that is the problem.

I will try the gamma command as you suggested. Thanks!

I ran XF86Config and that fixed it.
