Hey this is what I needed to test gnome3.
But after the test I think I|d better emerged it right away instead of downloading the dvd... |

Hello, thanks for this release mates!
I was looking for an updated 11.0 but gnome3 is a bit risky... I do not want to update myself the whole 11.0 packages as I'm just going to [re-]make an image for someone else to an almost ready to use system. I have myself built my Gentoo x86_64 stage4 image, however this is no good for older hardwares that do not support amd64! Lets see if gnome3 is fully functional otherwise I'll have to compile around 200 pkgs myself--darn, I'd like to avoid it--or then take the 11.0 release. |

I talked to quickly... indeed gnome3 is problematic. I was agreeably surprised to see everything work as intended, you guys did a great job! only to see gnome3 fail to start. And then kdm was fired up--kde-4.6 is prety appealing although I don't feel right with it, the UI remind me too much of M$... The only serious issue was a failure to insert i915 kernel module for a supposedly need of intel_agp module which is built in the kernel. I couldn't figure out what went wrong with it. And I took a look of gdm log... and I did not see anything obvious. I didn't want to waste too much time with gnome3 as I did merge it a while back and I'm stuck with a login issue!
Seriously, too much work was put together to make it possible to boot this thing without a need to do anything and just take the time to use it! I'll surly modify a 11.x livedvd to make an incognito livedvd as I feel at home with Gentoo Linux/GDM. Well, time to take that 11.0. |
