Sorry, I didn't mean to touch a nerve. I have no interest in the Francophone vs Anglophone politics of Canada.
Many of the locals where I live have what is locally referred to as a "French Canadian" accent. By that, they simply mean "Francophone". Believe it or not, this is only partly by virtue of proximity to Quebec, and mostly because the area was originally settled by Habitants and the accent and patterns of speech have been handed down across generations as the colloquial dialect of English. |
Usually, "Quebecois", "Quebeckers" and whatever refers to the province of Quebec usually cast a shadow of association with the left-wing "separatistes" psycho-socialists neurotics ecolo-naïves weirdos who think they are "artistes", hating and insulting anyone who doesn't share their sect beliefs.
I definitely don't want to be linked in any way with that. |
Oops. I didn't know that. So what is the polite way to refer to a French-speaking person from Quebec? Canadian Francophone? |

Oh well, it might just be an excess of paranoia from me.
Most people certainly won't be offended as being refered to as Quebecois, especially from non-Canadians.
The most apolitic way to refer to a "Quebecois" would be "Francophone", but would also englobe french-speaking people from other places in Canada -- New-Brunswick for example.
French Canadian has some political weigth (especially with the separatists).
If, speaking with someone, you detect a french canadian accent, asking if he is Canadian and comes from Quebec would be as neutral as "Francophone". If the person hastily reply he's "Quebecois", you are probably talking with a separatist, in which case can only be foreseen misfortune and desolation. |

I used to live in the D.C. area (among other places). Now, I live in Northeastern New York State. |

What part of Colorado are you in? My memory of it includes some freakish weather changes. |

In Dec. we had a period of ~20 below normal temperatures, which would have been about ~40-42. Not sure what normal for Jan. is. _________________ Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves. |

I used to live approximately here. I liked Colorado Springs, although I missed going to the beach. |

I think I said it before. And you didn't answer, which causes me to believe you live in a trailer down in Fountain or Widefield. |

Yep. I didn't realize you were asking for specifics. I lived in the same zip code when I first moved here, though not near Quail Lake, and definitely not near Security / Widefield or Fountain. Currently I'm on the NE side of town. _________________ Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves. |

Looks like they've lowered the expectations. -5 overnight Mon - Tue w/high of 0 on Tuesday. Low of -15 overnight Tue - Wed w/high of 5 on Wed. _________________ Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves. |

Yeah, they get pounded with lake-effect snow there.
I think it's supposed to be about -20 C here tonight. So far, I'm not minding the winter but I just shaved my beard off last night. I don't think my clean-shaven face is going to appreciate that cold air tomorrow morning. Might have to stay home... |

8°C | °F
Current: Fog
Wind: W at 10 km/h
Humidity: 100%
But, the fog is so dense that the visibility has dropped to 5 ft (or maybe less). _________________ "Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated, until defeat has been accepted as a reality." -- Bruce Lee |

That's a good time to go out and do evil (but not on your motorcycle). |

Very hard time to drive to work. I have stopped commuting on my bike, days like this makes me glad that I'm no longer on my motorbike. _________________ "Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated, until defeat has been accepted as a reality." -- Bruce Lee |

we are expecting it to drop to -30c on the thermometer tonight. It's been between -20c and -30c for a long while here

tonight starts a ~4 day low in the 20's (F). chaos will probably ensue. we will probably loose 10% of our population. i'm serious. if it ever gets below freezing for over an hour around here all hell breaks loose.
schools might have to take a "flood day". we don't call them snow days around these parts (and god help us if it snows -- they will have to send the national gaurd). |

Currently (4:25PM CST) 21F (-6.1C) here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Temperatures are not expecting to be above freezing before Friday. We just want the Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers feel at home. _________________ The BIGGER the GOVERNMENT, the smaller the citizen.
