Hi,
I'm new to Gentoo Forums so please excuse me if this post does not belong here. I'd like to request a test and upgrade of Ekiga for PPC. It would be very nice to benefit from improvements since version 2.0.12.
Thanks! |

Hello and welcome.
Looks to me like there is an existing bug report: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290071
In the meantime, you can install it by adding "=net-voip/ekiga-3.2.7" and any dependencies it has to your /etc/portage/package.keywords file. Add this, then `emerge =net-voip/ekiga-3.2.7`. It'll tell you which other dependencies you'll have to add as well. _________________ My Wiki page |

Thanks for the quick reply!
I have added to /etc/portage/package.keywords the following,
=net-voip/ekiga-3.2.7
=net-libs/opal-3.6.8
=net-libs/ptlib-2.6.7
and emerged =net-voip/ekiga-3.2.7 with (from ``emerge --info ekiga''),
USE="dbus gconf gnome gstreamer ldap libnotify nls shm xv (-aqua) -avahi -debug -doc -eds -h323 -kde (-kdeenablefinal) -kontact (-mmx) -static -v4l -xcap".
When it opens up I can see my own video, but when I call the echo service at 500@ekiga.net, after a while it says, ``Could not connect to remote host''. I get the same result when calling 501@ekiga.net and 520@ekiga.net |

Hmm. I think you might have to file a bug at bugs.gentoo.org about that one. _________________ My Wiki page |

But this version of Ekiga is still masked for PPC. Won't my bug report be dismissed because of this? |

In order to mark it stable, there are two rules of thumb: the package version should be in the tree for at least 30 days, and it shouldn't have any serious outstanding bugs.
So, no, it won't be ignored. On the contrary, the maintainers need to know if it doesn't work.
(If you can test this software on a non-PPC machine as well it would be helpful. This way we can be sure if the problem is general or specific to PPC.) _________________ My Wiki page |

Great then, I'll file the bug report! As for testing, unfortunately a PowerBook G4 is the only one available to me until the end of December. If no progress is made until then I'll gladly test it on a Pentium 4. |
