I emerge media-sound/alsa-driver && alsa-utils... It compiles fine... Or so I thought.
/dev/dsp is not made.
/dev/mixer ceases to exist.
I dont know why this is happening, I dl'ed the alsa package and used the snddevices script to try and make the shit I needed. Didnt work.
any idea??
thanks,

You should follow the directions in the third section of the Desktop Guide precisely. That should get you working with all your currently missing devices getting created magically by DevFS. Remember that you should only have "Sound Card Support" compiled into your kernel and nothing else to do with sound (no modules or direct kernel support for any specifically named sound cards!) Also remember that if you recompile your kernel you will need to recompile ALSA to restore/recreate the modules.
Hope that helps!
