Hi everyone

I have a Sun Ultra 60 running Gentoo which seems to crash or stop if the server that is attached to the serial console goes down.
It's a simple setup, just a cable - one end connected to the serial port on the Ultra 60 using an adaptor to change the size of the serial plug and the other end to the serial port on the server. The server is quite old (dual P3 800 HP Netserver) running Ubuntu 10.04
Minicom works a treat and I can use it to view the console and issue commands to OBP just fine.

I'm not sure where to look to fix this except maybe any serial options in the bios on the Ubuntu server but I wouldn't know what to set/change.

Is anyone able to offer any advice?

If it helps, the kernel on the Sparc/Gentoo box is 2.6.27-gentoo-r8

Thanks
Mark

LOL that's a feature of Sun Hardware... We have some systems that do that too.

Does your Sun Ultra 60 have a key switch on the front to lock/ unlock keyboard etc?
If so put this to the locked position and it should be ok.

When a PC shuts off, there's a signal that's sent down the line that gets interpreted as a BREAK signal by the SPARC. From the PC's point of view, there isn't much you can do about it short of unplugging the cable before powering off the PC.

On the SPARC, you can change this behavior via the proc filesystem. To change it on the fly, do:
Code:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/stop-a

This will effect ALL break signals however, including ones you may want to intentionally send.
