Hi there,

I have a second hand SunFire v240 and I don't know nothing about it (the OS which is running, the existing configuration, ...).
I can connect to the serial port (RJ45) and get something on my screen, but it prompts for a Login/Password that I obviously don't know. I tried to reset the ALOM conf with the sun documentation but it doesn't work.

I tried the timeout way (wait at the « Login » prompt to get a timeout and a console) but it only prompts "type #. to get back to the ALOM" (or something like that) and not the ok> prompt.
I tried the escape key during the ALOM boot, it doesn't work too (I don't have the « reset » option).
Finally, I can't change settings with Solaris because I don't have access to the OS... I not even sure that the OS is Solaris and is correctly working when I boot it.

So, can you help me to gain access to the prompt which will allows me to type « boot net » to finally install gentoo on that box ?

PS : sorry for my english, this isn't my maternal language ;)

Sounds like OBP is set to auto-boot = true.

Try removing the boot disk, or well, just all the disks.
Then it _should_ fall to "ok>" after the login timeout, as there is nothing to boot from.

Then, in OBP, set auto-boot to false, turn the server off and reinstall the disks.

You will have to install Solaris then most likely, as you will need scadm to reset the ALOM password. Or use the live cd, mount /, and edit /etc/shadow to reset the OS root password..
