I've been building a production gentoo server for the local university based on a stage 4 image made from one of my own systems. Now usually i could deal with fairly insignificant errors but i'm more or less interested in assuring as best as possible everything is working correctly. I've been using djbdns for half a decade and gentoo linux for around seven or eight years while i'm aware of the migration under way towards baselayout 2 and openrc which is turning out to be fantastic i seem to be missing some of the baselayout-1 era informative command scripts and im open to suggestions to rectify the issue if possible.
configuring dnscache with dnscache-setup via the gentoo way the script cannot locate "einfo"
Code: | asgard Domain Controller # dnscache-setup
shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/dnscache-setup: line 4: /sbin/functions.sh: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/dnscache-setup: line 9: einfo: command not found
>>> More information on this package can be found at
>>> http://cr.yp.to/djbdns.html and http://djbdns.org
After this script completes, dnscache will be configured.
Your /etc/resolv.conf will be updated so that all DNS
lookups will be directed to dnscache.
Your original /etc/resolv.conf will be backed up to
/etc/resolv.conf.orig.
If you have previously setup dnscache, those directories will
not be overwritten. To redo setup, delete your dnscache
dirs first or choose a different install location.
(press enter to begin setup, or press control-C to abort)
/usr/bin/dnscache-setup: line 31: einfo: command not found
Where do you want dnscache installed?
Ex. Default (/var) will install dnscache in /var/dnscache,
or an external cache in /var/dnscachex.
!!No trailing slash!!
[/var]>
/usr/bin/dnscache-setup: line 54: einfo: command not found
Specify an address to which dnscache should bind.
If this is the only machine accessing dnscache,
127.0.0.1 is a good start.
Currently running IP addresses:
10.123.100.15 10.123.100.16 10.123.100.17 10.123.100.18 127.0.0.1
IP to bind cache to [127.0.0.1]>

Try adding /lib/rc/bin to your PATH before calling your script, as that's where einfo and friends are located:
Code: | export PATH="/lib/rc/bin:${PATH}"
dnscache-setup |
Let me know if it works. |

| It appears this script assumes it will be run on a baselayout-1 system. On baselayout-1, sourcing /sbin/functions.sh defined a shell function einfo. Since you have upgraded to baselayout-2, you now need a script that understands the new way to find einfo. |

If I'm not mistaken, then he'd probably want to source /lib/rc/sh/functions.sh (or /etc/init.d/functions.sh, since it's sym-linked to it). |

.. ok, this thread seems to be quite old, but I'm running into the same scenario now. How can this be solved, so that einf and function.sh are searched at the right places? _________________ http://www.marc-richter.info |
