I performed an emerge rsync, and an emerge --update world on Wednesday (Aug 13, 2002). A big update which included gnome-2.0.2, freetype-2.1.2, gdm-2.4.0.7, and lots of other things.
Since this emerge, I no longer can access the display after I "su - root" in gnome-terminal. As root inside of gnome-terminal, I receive the following error when trying to run any process that need the screen - like gedit or gnome-system-monitor:
Code: |
# gnome-system-monitor
(gnome-system-monitor:5335): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
# gedit
(gedit:5344): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
|
Before this emerge, root always could access the display from within a gnome-terminal.
I believe that some configuration file was changed durring the emerge, but i cannot find one which would explain this.
Any help with this problem, including suggestions for additional research, would be greatly appreciated.
