|
|
I recently built a new system a Phenom II X6 1055t, so I thought I would recompile the base system.
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=amdfam10 -pipe"
MAKEOPTS="-j7"
Whenever I attempt to rebuild glibc it never finishes and appears that it is stuck in an endless loop. Should emerging glibc take more than 16 hours? |

No, not even close. Is it actually generating output, or just stuck somewhere? If it's still printing to the terminal, my guess is some funky dependency-knots in the makefile. Maybe try with a low -j-value (e.g. 1 or 2) in MAKEOPTS?
If it seems to be stuck, I have no idea. _________________ PKA Cuber

It is actually generating output, and all 6 cores are pegged at 95%+ utilization. It recompiles lowlevellock and a few other items over and over again. I think I may try lowering the clock speed on my cores from 4ghz to 2.8ghz, even though the cpu is running at 35c even during compile. If that doesn't work I will start from scratch, as it is a fresh install. |

If it succeeds in compiling them, I suspect lowering the clock speed will only make it go slower, as expected.
Don't worry too much about having to start over on glibc. My old single-threaded laptop finishes it in a couple of hours. 16 is excessive. _________________ PKA Cuber

I did a reinstall and it fixed the problem, not sure what the issue is. |

any feedbacks on that cpu? I intend to build a multiseat server and I was thinking of getting that cpu.
how does it fares with heavy multitask scenarios? _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

How long did it take to build OpenOffice 3.2.0 on your mighty six core box? Use genlop to find out, it's a really useful tool for checking build times. _________________ Cheers,
