bug 321159

It could be as simple as a missing include but I don't have time to play with it right now. It'd be nice to be able to do a rebuild since I've been out of town and broke my last chromium build due to libpng stupidness.

chromium continues to randomly fail to load my profiles and flash is also not working atm. Youtube gives me a message that I need to upgrade to the latest version of flash but I already have the latest.

That looks serious. What is the exact error message and how it looks like? Is it related to unclean shutdowns or something like that? Which filesystem are you using?

Heres the error dialog
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1817/201005251111351024x768s.png

It's been a few weeks since this last happened, deleting the profile folder is the only way to fix the error. It seems that the only thing that is lost when it fails to load the profile though is autofill, browsing history, etc and not my browser settings. I am using etx4 with relatime mount option. As far as I can tell this is not occurring from improper shutdown although I do frequently suspend to S3 via tuxonice.

Thanks. The suspending indeed may have some influence here.

Let me quote the dialog text here for reference:

Quote:

Your profile could not be opened correctly. Some features may be unavailable. Please check that the profile exists and you have permission to read and write its contents.

Here's a way you can really help the project, and hopefully get this fixed: back up your profile at the moment it gets corrupted. Then file a new bug on http://new.crbug.com/ (use the Linux template). Provide all info from here, and say you can upload the corrupted profile after the bug is made private. Feel free to PM me the bug link so I can apply needed labels etc.

Moved from Unsupported Software to Other Things Gentoo now that it's in the Portage tree.

/usr/portage/www-client/chromium/chromium-6.0.427.0.ebuild
Code:

What added cups??? And installing it on USE impossible? Cups I do not want in the system ...

My search bar suddenly stopped working. I can enter URLs fine, but if I try to do a Google search, it does nothing.
The problem appeared after I updated to 6.0.427, but I even downgraded to 5.0.375.70, and the problem persists.

I even unmerged chromium and deleted ~/.config/chromium and ~/.cache/chromium, and as far as I could tell there were no other chromium related files to delete.

The really weird part is the search bar in Firefox hasn't worked for me in months. Even after reemerging it for updates and all that.

Am I suddenly missing a library? I use KDE4, so maybe I don't have some GTK stuff?
This is one of the most bizarre bugs I've seen. I've never had this issue in Chrome or Firefox on any other system.

If you're using GCC 4.5, that's what happens. It seems to be a bug in GCC.

++

strange thing is:

when using chromium on Arch it works (I'm sure it wasn't compiled with gcc 4.5 on arch - they're probably using the binary)

I moved back to Gentoo & it went on working - after several days later it stopped again !

so that problem is pretty hard to tackle :?

Yep, I'm using GCC 4.5. That sucks.
But I'm pretty sure I recompiled Chromium a couple weeks ago when I first installed the new GCC when I did emerge -e world

I guess I'll just switch to chromium-bin since I don't want to install a second GCC just for chromium.

oh, btw I'm currently using: 6.0.408.1

and the problem's also there - I'm pretty sure that it was also there the version before (most probably also a 6 version release and another 5 version release also had this issue)

hard to pinpoint ...

Alright, I've hacked CUPS out into a useflag and compiling it now. Will post patches later if it works.

Would you file an enhancement request at the Gentoo Linux bug tracker?

Nice work! :D I'm sure either me or voyageur will apply these patches. I usually don't update the existing ebuilds to save time on compile-testing, but the next dev channel release has a good chance of getting this. Oh, and then my plan is to take these changes upstream, so we don't have to apply custom patches, and can just flip a configure flag.

If you could file a bug (bugs.gentoo.org) that would make things easier to track.

Only partially:

Quote:
AdBlock 2.0 blocks resources that match your several thousand subscribed filter rules and any of your custom filter rules; basically, doing what it's always done but now preventing the download. A downside to this is that occasionally I've seen a resource sneak by before the rules were loaded.

ah - well,

any improvement in that direction is speeding up & improving the experience even if that means 2 steps forward and 1 step back

thanks for the clarification Shining Arcanine !

Any time.

If you are interested, there is an open issue at the AdBlock For Chrome bug tracker dedicated to discussing ways of fixing/working around this:

http://code.google.com/p/adblockforchrome/issues/detail?id=3614

I perused AdBlock For Chrome's files and made some suggestions for how it can do quick processing based on the design of its filters, which would not eliminate the issue, but it would minimize it (and possibly make chrome with adblocking faster).
